Healing for Our Animal Companions

 

REIKI/INTUITIVE HEALING FOR ANIMALS

As a hands-on healing method, Reiki is both very subtle and very powerful. It can help your animal companion heal on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual (-yes, spiritual!). This universal life force energy is channeled through the hands of the practitioner directly to the body and energy field of your animal friend. Because of its nature, Reiki can never do harm. It always works for our highest, greatest good.

Our animal companions can benefit greatly from Reiki treatment. In my experience, animals are very open and in tune with the flow of Reiki energy - they seem to know instinctively of its power to help them heal. While it should not take the place of medical care from a licensed veterinarian or homeopath, it is an excellent and safe complement to standard/Western medicine and all other forms of healing.

 

Here are just a few of the things that Reiki can do for your animal:

* promote relaxation, contentment and an overall sense of well-being

* accelerate post-surgical recovery

* help relieve pain and discomfort

* alleviate symptoms of disease

* reduce stress levels

* help calm aggressive or fearful animals

* improve emotional and behavioral problems

* provide comfort and support to dying animals

HOW DOES AN ANIMAL REIKI SESSION WORK?

There are two different ways of offering Reiki to your animal. The first way is with an in-person, hands-on session. I place my hands gently on or just above your animal companion. The Reiki energy can be directed to a particular problem area (i.e. an injured limb, surgical wound) and/or to their entire body - depending on the needs of your animal.

If an in-person session is not possible, due to your location, your animal's accessibility or otherwise, the 'Distant' method is an excellent alternative. I can send Reiki to the other side of a kennel/cage door, to an animal across the room from me, or to one in a different part of the country! Again, Reiki energy knows no bounds.

INTUITIVE COMMUNICATION

I firmly believe in the power of Reiki to help with any kind of healing process. As with you and me however, it is up to our animal friends to be open to receiving the energy. At this time, I am not doing full-on animal communication work. However, I do use these ever-expanding skills to connect on a much deeper level with my animal clients. I will always 'check in' with your companion before beginning a session. I need to find out how they are feeling - on all levels, and to ask for their permission to enter their 'space' and perform a body scan or do a Reiki treatment. In my experience, animals are almost always willing to receive this type of help and healing.

Animals have always been an important part of my life - from the family dogs and cats to cows, pigs and chickens (- I spent many childhood summers on my grandparents' farm!). When I lived in North Carolina I worked at a busy, top-notch veterinary hospital for five years, where my experience ranged from full-time animal caregiver to service coordinator. I also volunteered my Reiki services at the Piedmont Wildlife Center in Durham - which was always a very humbling experience! Here in New England, I worked for almost two years as a caregiver and assistant manager at a large dog daycare facility and now co-own a dog walking/animal care service based in Watertown!

Animals have given and taught me so much over the years and I am honored to return the favor. It is my intention to be heart-centered in all of my work and to always do the best I can for your very special animal companion!
